JEEP KING MOUNTAIN ROUND #2JULY 21,

(Press Release)
TELLURIDE, Colo. ? The Jeep? King of the Mountain Series completed the second thrilling race of the three part professional mountain bike Series today at Colorados Telluride Ski Resort.

Eight teams of mountain bike racers of distinction from all over the globe came together to compete against one another and face the Jeep King of the Mountain?Y? course. The series will offer more than just prize money. They also have the chance to win a two-year lease for a Jeep Wrangler X.

The?Y? The?Y? course was created specifically for the Jeep KOM Series. It is the only competition that uses this track worldwide. The course combines 4 Cross and Dual mountain bike trails. Riders will go head-to-head. The dual section offered more challenges and excitement for competitors, with drop jumps and stutter bumps. Both competitors entered the famous?Y. The Jeep KOM?Y? The Jeep KOM?Y forces riders to work together, sometimes with only four feet between them and at speeds up to 40 mph.

This racing format requires technical precision to navigate the slalom gate, balance and control big jumps, and the ability to accelerate to the finish. It adds a whole new level to mountain bike racing.

We are thrilled to offer professional mountain biking the King of the Mountain format. Bob Lilly, Jeep’s Regional Account Executive, stated the following: ?Competitive mountain biking and particularly the?Y? ?Competitive mountain biking, and especially the?Y? ?

The?Y? was dominated by the Australians. The Aussies won the?Y? today, scoring 3 individual medals as well as the team medals at Telluride Ski Resort. Nathan Rennies’ capture of the mens golden medal, along with Katrina Millers victory in the womens silver, saw them reach the top podium at Telluride. However, they were not able to take the Paul Mitchell Leaders bibs, which Team France is coveted. Rennie and Miller won in the race. Frances Sabrina Jonnier, Team Frances, won the Womens Individual again. She also took home more in prize money than 3rd place Telluride, and was 15 points ahead of Tai Lee Muxlow, 2nd overall in Jeep KOM Womens Individual.

The?Ys were challenged by 16 mountain bikers. In an exciting head-to-head race format, 16 top mountain bikers took on the?Ys? To advance to the finals, winners had to complete two runs on each track. To determine the head start time for the leader at the beginning the second run, the time difference between the racers in each run was used. The winner of the second head to head match up determines which race is won. Telluride’s closest race was the one between Nathan Rennie, semi-finalists and Bas de Bever representing Team Holland. Bas de Bever held a mere 0.30 second advantage over Nathan Rennie, second place Mens Individual. Mike King, from Team One France, was the American medalist today. He won the bronze for Mens Individual.

The baton will be passed from Telluride in Colorado to Kirkwood Ski Resort, Lake Tahoe, Calif., where athletes will compete again for individual and team points at this championship on August 23rd. Mountain bikers will have one last chance at winning prize money and a two-year lease for a Jeep Wrangler X at Kirkwood Ski Resort.

France’s Team Two will be wearing the Leader Jerseys at Kirkwood, August 23rd. However, Gracia & Jonnier will have to face stiff competition from the two other teams that are tied for second place with only a 10 point difference behind the French. Mick Hannah and Tai Lee Muxlow from Team Two Australia, as well as Steve Peat, Tracy Moseley, and Tracy Moseley, of United Kingdoms Team One will give Jonnier a tough time.

Fox Sports Net will broadcast the Jeep King of the Mountain Professional Mountain Biking Race. Check your TV guide or log on to www.jeepmtnbiking.com or www.jeepsports.com for local air dates and specific times.
